I tried many different home remedies and products before finally finding something that worked. Here are some of the basic home remedies for removing acne:

Aspirin and Toothpaste

Take an aspirin tablet and dissolve it in water, but be careful not to use too much water. It should be pasty, not watery. Next, add a small bit of white toothpaste (not green or colored) to the aspirin paste. Apply just a dab to the pimple, or spread lightly and evenly over acne patches.

The good: This remedy does seem to work the majority of the time, and is fairly easy and cost effective to implement.

The bad: The mixture can take some practice to get right, and can also be messy (getting the paste on your clothes or, if you leave on overnight, it gets on your bedding). This remedy also doesn’t always work, especially for moderate or severe acne, and may take longer than expected to see results.

Honey and Cinnamon

Mix a tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply the mixture to pimples and acne patches and leave it on overnight.

The good: Other than the fact that just about everyone has these ingredients lying around the house, so it’s very easy to make, there isn’t really anything else good to say about this remedy (see below).

The bad: HIGHLY messy. I was only able to try this method one time before I gave up on it. It’s sticky, it’s itchy, and it gets all over literally everything. There was honey all over my pillow, blanket, sheets, and clothes in the morning (not that I didn’t expect that to happen, but I was desperate) – and this was after only a small amount being used.

Other Home Remedies

I could get into all the other home remedies I’ve tried, but I’ve talked about the best and the worst two methods above. I’ve literally tried just about all of them – ground garlic, nutmeg and milk, lemon juice and cinnamon, orange peel, tomato and cucumber pulp, you name it! Most either didn’t work, didn’t work well, were too messy or stinky, or took too long before seeing results.
